Veterinary Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows veterinarians to see inside a pet’s body and, when needed, take tissue samples (biopsies) without performing traditional surgery. This procedure provides a safer and less invasive option for diagnosing and treating many conditions.
Common Uses for Endoscopy
Endoscopy is highly versatile and can be used to examine various parts of a pet’s body, including:
Ears
Nose
Esophagus
Stomach
Colon
Bladder
Other internal organs
In addition, endoscopy can assist with minimally invasive surgeries and is particularly valuable for retrieving swallowed objects.
How the Procedure Works
During an endoscopic exam:
A veterinarian inserts the endoscope, a long tube with a camera at one end, into the area to be examined.
Small incisions may be required for certain procedures, but they are much smaller than those used in traditional surgery, resulting in less pain and faster recovery.
The camera provides real-time images, allowing the veterinarian to diagnose issues, guide treatment, or take biopsies.
Safety and Anesthesia
Endoscopy does require that your pet be placed under anesthesia. Our veterinary team follows strict protocols to ensure your pet’s safety, including:
Continuous monitoring of vital signs
Careful anesthesia administration
Post-procedure observation to ensure a smooth recovery
Please see our sections on Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring for more details on our safety measures.
